For my money, this is one of the most epic engineering stories of all times.

Speaking of time, this is the story of John Harrison and his efforts to create the world's first accurate naval chronometer. He struggles to overcome competitors and political machines bent on keeping him from a well deserved prize. This is a fantastic book that anyone serious about wanting to be an engineer should read. I started wearing a wristwatch daily because of this book.
